This
site is in English because FIBS players come from all over the world but most
speak some English.
"All over the world" means different time zones for different players,
so accept the fact that it will sometimes be difficult to plan your match -
you have to make your best effort.
Play periods are long so that players have time to arrange agreeable dates and
times, and to reduce my management time. ;-).
Here's the rules for League & Bracket & Swiss Tournament
Director Co-Director |

Sign-Up | Free - Come and Have Fun in a community where BackGammon Players find an opportunity to play matches with some of the nicest people on the net. Be courteous and fair, respect each other, and enjoy this game. If you can't do so, please don't sign up! |
Where to play | Preferably matches will be played on FIBS (The First Internet Backgammon Server http://www.fibs.com ). However if both players agree, matches may be played on any server they choose or even on a real board. |
Register | Enter
your FIBS' Nickname, a password and a valid email address to plan
your matches with other players. By joining, you agree that your email address
will be accessible through the FibsLeaGammon Web site. You will be entered
at the bottom of league, in last division. If you really don't want to publish it, enter "nickname@none.com" and send it to me by email - then I will be able to communicate it to the other players who ask for it. I don't normally accept this , because I will lose time for site management, and you will lose time to plan your matchs. |
League | This
League is composed of several divisions. Each division
will have 12 Players. Each player will have to play one
match with every other player belonging to the same division during a 2
month play period. There are actually 11 Divisions as described below : MASTER LEAGUE : There is 2 Master divisions, A and B of 12 players. Two 11-Pt Semi-Final between the winner of one league and the second of the other will determine the League's Final which should be played in 13Pts, and the winner to become the new League's Champion. The 3 last players of each division will move DOWN to the Gold League. GOLD LEAGUE : With 2 divisions of 13 players, the top 3 players of each will move UP to the Master League, and the last 4DOWN to the Silver League. SILVER LEAGUE : With 3 divisions of 14 players, the top 2 players of each, and the 2 best scores between the 3rd and new comers, will move UP to the Gold League, and the last 5 DOWN to the Bronze League. BRONZE LEAGUE : This league is divided in 4 parts (max of 15 players). The top 3 players of each, plus the 3 best new comers, will move UP to the Silver League. SEZAME LEAGUE : The Sezame Leagues will be always the last ones, where new players enter. You can enter in those Leagues even when the session has began while there is free seat available. Be patient in those League, it's often happen that players subscribe in and never play their match. Computer players are not allowed here, neither as participants nor as helping tools. It is also prohibited to get help during the match (ie. books, tables, other players etc.) Any violation of this rule is cause for disqualification. |
League Ranking | Players
receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a loss. They will be ranked according
to : More details have been explained below (Thanks to cht who loves rules in helping me on this point). |
Schedule Matches | Scheduling
of matches is the responsibility of the players. We recommend using the
player email links provided on the Fibsters Page to schedule your matches.
Please try to finish the matches earlier rather than later, so that there
are less scheduling problems. Players are expected to make their best efforts to complete matches in a reasonable, timely manner. Any players who believes their opponent is not making such an effort has the right to complain to me. No answer from a player for more than 2 weeks will be considered a loss (if you are unvailable for more than 2 weeks, please let me know). No forfeit claim will be accepted during the last 2 weeks of the session. All players who do not play any match during the session without explanation will be deleted. All players who play less than 3 matchs during the session without explanation will go 2 divisions down. Watch out for Time Zones: For convenience, use the GMT/UTC hours to schedule your match. It's also FIBS Time (when you type "time" in command line). |
Format | Matches are to be played using the Crawford rule, doubling cube and allowpip toggled on. All matches lengths will be 7 points, except for Master Divisions where matches lengths will be 9 points. It is recommended that you save your matches if your FIBS client allows you to do so. This may be helpful in case of a dispute. |
Reporting Match | When
a match is finished, the LOSER will POST
by clicking the following icon If you want to forfeit, check the forfeit cross (the loss is registered but the rating is not affected). Mutual agreement is a good thing for me so that I do not waste time, and for you for quick updates. Thanks for your efforts. |
Claim Forfeit | You
can claim a forfeit in case of no answer from your
opponent to plan your match. It must be done as describe lelow : You must email the player concerned using the mailing form at FLG with [FLG] Claim Forfeit in the subject, the division and the details why you request it (I am automaticly in copy). If no dispute until the end of the session, you will get the Forfeit. No forfeit claim will be accepted during the last 2 weeks of the session. No forfeit awarded against a player who play 0 match for the entire session. |
Disputes | In the event of a dispute, I'll try to take the most fair decision. |
Prize | Personnal satisfaction to winner ;-) |

Eligibility | The tournament is open to all Fibs account holders on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations for the next tournament will open approximately two weeks prior to the end of the current tournament. |
Place | Fibs! While the directors cannot enforce this, it is strongly encouraged. Hey, this is a Fibs tournament! Note that matches absolutely should not be played on servers that do not allow saving of matches in the event one player is booted. |
Fees and Prizes | The tournament is free to enter and no prizes will be awarded. |
Format | Matches are to be played using the Crawford rule, doubling cube and allowpip toggled on. Match's Lengths will depend on the tournament round. It is recommended that you save your matches if your FIBS client allows you to do so. This may be helpful in case of a dispute. |
Scheduling | Please use the email links found on the Player page and be sure to contact your opponent early. Please do not wait until the last few days before the deadline to contact your opponent. The tournament is world wide and finding a mutual time to play may require more than a few days. Also, do not just assume that you will run into your opponent on FIBS. Many players log onto FIBS only for scheduled matches and at times you are not on FIBS. |
Deadlines | Due dates for each round are posted on the main tournament site. Since over two weeks are allotted for each round, extensions will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and for not longer than three days. Deadlines will be extended in the event of a prolonged Fibs outage. |
Forfeitures and No Results | If
a player has made a legitimate effort to contact his or her opponent with
no response, a forfeit may be requested on the due date. At least three
email attempts have to be made before a forfeit will be granted. Please
try to schedule your matches early to allow for unforeseen events. Also,
please save all scheduling email until the tournament has ended. In the event neither player posts any results, the opponent of the next round will receive a bye. |
Posting Results | The player who has lost must report the match at http://fibsleagammon.free.fr/post.php, with the tournament cross checked. If you want to forfeit check the forfeit cross (the lose is registered but the rating is no affected). The Winner can confirm at http://fibsleagammon.free.fr/confirm.php, (please check that the post corresponds to the match played). |
Drops and Disputes | If
a player drops during the match, the opponent should wait at least 15 minutes
for the player to return. If the player does not return, the match must
be rescheduled BEFORE the deadline. If the match cannot be rescheduled before
the deadline, the tournament directors MAY award a victory to the player
ahead in the match or they MAY determine that No Results are the outcome. The decision of the tournament directors shall be final. Evidence such as email correspondence, dice logs, etc., should be retained until after the tournament. |
Having Fun | That is what this tournament is all about. Win or lose, good dice or bad, thank your opponent and be a good sport. Have fun and may you never roll boxes while on the bar. |

Principles of a Swiss System tournament | The
number of rounds to be played is declared beforehand. Two players may play each other only once. Players are paired with others of the same score, or nearest score. The final ranking order is determined by the aggregate of points won: 1 point for a win, 0.5 point for a draw and 0 point for a loss. A player whose opponent fails to appear for a scheduled game receives one point. See complete rules at http://www.fide.com/official/handbook.asp?level=C04 (for chess but quite the same) |

Players
receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a loss. They will be ranked according
to : 1) Total Score. 2) More Wins, if same score. 3)
Accumulated score of defeated players Example : Below the results of the GoldB division the 29 november 2005.
I
mean with this rule 3) that all equal players get
points (points league standing) of each players he beat during the league.
Then I compare all sum and define the ranking.
4) Direct Match against each other, if same number of wins
Example : Below the results of the MasterB division the 29 november 2005.
dorbel,
Sakis, tryout and spock have the same number of points (25 pts) and same
number of win (7). So are the final ranking of the division 5) And then Tournament director will decide what to do ;-)) if direct Matches again equal out...
